In general, I am a very lucky woman. I have a man who loves me through good and bad hair days, PMS, listens to all of my stories, cooks for me, and accepts me for whoever I am at any given moment. I have 3 great kids that make me proud, that make me laugh, that are all so adorable in so many ways (and they are all in their 20s!). I am lucky to have a fabulous daughter-in-law. I love my home, my dog, cats and yes, my chickens. I have wonderful friends. My life is rich in experiences and a tapestry of all of the people who have influenced my past, present and future. I love that I am still changing.
But for today I am lucky in a silly way. [Following that last meaningful paragraph, this one will be cheesy in comparison.] I am lucky because I have gone to the movies twice, two movies in two days. Ta daaaa! Why is this such a feat? Because I LOVE the movie theater experience. No, it is not the concession stand, the popcorn or the candy (we can't afford that-- we still have a kid in college!). It is the 2 hour escape, in a dark room, with my best friend at my side, and a HUGE MOVIE SCREEN. And we Rodgers are big movie fans. Some of us can wait until the latest movie comes out on DVD-- not me, I will choose the big screen version anyday. So to counter the chick movie we saw yesterday, we went to see this one today:
That's right. The sci-fi movie, "District 9". Bill loved it! He gave it a 9.2 on our (formal) Rodgers Movie Rating System (10 is phenomenal). He called two of his friends on the way home to tell them about the movie and that they should see it. I thought it was provocative, the special effects were really good, the storyline was clever and unpredictable. I have not given it a numerical rating yet, but it is a "thumbs up" (that is our casual Rodgers Movie Rating System). It is definitely worth seeing. It has a great (sci-fi) message. I don't want to give anything away. But what cracked me up was seeing who was in line for this movie today--- the hallway was lined with men-- a man here and another leaning against the wall there, a couple of guy friends, a couple of father/son combos, and only a few couples with a man/woman. This movie must be loaded with testosterone!!! Now that I have seen it-- damn right.
