Although spring is coming and many things are growing, my chickens are constantly looking for greens while they scratch and peck in our large yard.
So I have been making them salads for their afternoon snack:
I start with a couple of handfuls of Costco mixed greens, then I add whatever veggies are in the fridge as leftovers or in the pantry. This particular chicken salad has a little corn, chopped cucumbers and a 1/2 can of diced tomatoes. I go outside and call for my chicks... and they come RUNNING!
All of them love to pick at the top of the salad... Usually Honey, Sugar and The Blondies get distracted and/or want to be petted and wander away.
Some of them go back to the salad, like this Blondie did:
But some chicks love salad more than the others. Chickita cleans up all of the lettuce and veggies that have been flung off of the plate onto the deck. Runt, Oreo and Pepper are the cleaner-uppers. They stick around or return to polish off the rest of the salad when the other chicks have gone off to peck and scratch somewhere else. Within an hour, I will return to find the plate (and the deck) picked clean.
Seriously....Rodgers chicks really dig salads!
